About Dr. Kirk Little, East Carolina ’82: Dr. Little is the Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for Apogee Solutions, Inc. Since joining the company in 2004, Dr. Little has overseen all corporate activities to ensure schedule, cost, and performance goals are met. As COO, Dr. Little provides broad guidance and oversight to corporate staff to fulfill organizational goals while following up on individual directors and staff to ensure strategic objectives are met. He has the overall responsibility for managing all aspects of Apogee Solutions, coordinating efforts among various managers and directors.
Dr. Little previously worked for General Dynamics. While working for General Dynamics, Dr. Little provided critical strategic and technical advice in the development, execution, and analysis of experiments designed to recommend and integrate evolutionary changes to the Armed Forces’ doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership, personnel, and facilities (DOTMLPF).
Prior to his work in the commercial sector, Dr. Little completed a career as an Air Force Space Operations Officer, including assignments at the detachment, squadron, group, wing, major command, and unified command levels. Operationally, he amassed over 4,200 satellite contacts on a variety of surveillance, navigation, communications, and early warning satellites. His final assignment was as the Senior Space Systems Officer for United States Atlantic Command. He was also the Operational Manager for a navigation warfare (NAVWAR) advanced concept technology demonstration (ACTD) program focused on ensuring U.S. and allied access to signals from the Global Positioning System while denying adversary use of the same satellite signals.
Dr. Little earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1982 from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. In 1988, he received with honors a Master of Science degree in human resource management and development from Chapman College in Orange, California. In 1995 he also received a Master of Arts degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Attending Temple University’s Fox School of Business, he graduated with a Doctorate in Business Administration in 2019. A 1984 graduate of the Air Force’s Squadron Officer School, he is a 1995 graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College. In 2002, Dr. Little earned designation as a Project Management Professional (PMP) signifying his dedication to that management discipline.
Dr. Little’s involvment within Beta Theta Pi is extensive. He has served the General Fraternity as a member of the Board of Trustees, District Chief, Assistant District Chief and Convention Vice President. Additionally he has been active as an advisor for the East Carolina chapter, including having served as chapter counselor. He is currently a member of Beta Theta Pi’s Advisory Council.
