Affordability Scholarships

Recent studies show fraternities are an accelerator for success both in college and beyond. Studies also show that fraternities create lifelong connections to one’s campus, and friends and fraternity members experience stronger mental health than their peers. Despite these benefits, from time to time our members may experience financial hardship that impacts their ability to remain active and engaged.

To help alleviate that hardship, the Beta Theta Pi Foundation offers chapters a limited opportunity to nominate collegiate members for scholarships who are a) joining or recently joined Beta Theta Pi, or b) are considering or were granted temporarily inactive (TIA) status.

Note: Nomination does not guarantee that the member(s) you identify will receive the assistance. Still, the Foundation will ensure that those you nominate are aware of this opportunity. Nominees must be submitted individually; however, a link will be provided on the confirmation page to submit an additional name or two.

New Member Affordability Scholarship

When recruiting in new members, we’ve all been in conversations where a candidate has all the qualities we are looking for, but he can’t immediately afford the Beta experience. To alleviate this, the Beta Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities for new members who are joining, or just joined, Beta Theta Pi.

Scholarship amounts range from the minimum of $500 per member to the maximum of $1,000. Though we would like to help every new member, funds are limited and offered on a case-by-case basis for those with the greatest need. Brothers must be in their first term of joining to qualify.

We understand these decisions can be time sensitive. The Foundation will process the applications as quickly as possible, informing you and the applicant if the scholarship has been approved. Once the nomination form is completed, the application is automatically sent to the individual nominated.

TIA Member Affordability Scholarship

In some cases, collegiate brothers have to downgrade their membership status to Temporary Inactive (TIA) due to financial hardships. This reduces involvement in the chapter activities and oftentimes takes away from the Fraternity’s intangible benefits.

To help alleviate that hardship and reduce the number of men having a diluted Beta experience, the Beta Foundation is offering $250 affordability scholarships to each chapter to give to those who have already indicated or otherwise need to be on Temporary Inactive status due to financial hardship.

Once the nomination form is completed, the application is automatically sent to the individual nominated.  The deadline to apply is September 28, and all scholarship checks will be mailed out in October.

*Please Note: If one or more of a chapter’s members are awarded a scholarship, they will still count toward the maximum of brothers per chapter on TIA for financial hardship, as defined by The Code of Beta Theta Pi.
